Faxon to put skills on show
Tour Championship at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina, will tee off against several top local golfers at Mid Ocean Club at 12.15 p.m.
today.
The well-known golfer wrapped up the final round on the par-71 course with a four-round score of 284 that saw him finish eight strokes behind winner Paul Azinger. Faxon pocketed $59,000 for the performance and his total earnings for the year swelled to $800,000.
The formidable field of local golfers playing against him today, including former Bermuda Open champion Kim Swan, will be hard pressed to raise the level of their own games in order to offer a spirited challenge to Faxon who was recently ranked as high as seventh on the PGA money list.
The year has been one of the best ever for Faxon who has won the New England Classic and The International while finishing second in both the Tournament of Champions and the Buick Open. He was sixth in the MCI Heritage Classic and eighth in the Nestle Invitational.
Through November 1, the Florida resident was ranked 11th among the Americans in points for the Ryder Cup in England next September.
