Firemen douse BAA title hopes
dashed following their third loss of the season on Saturday.
In third place going into the match against Fire Service and knowing the importance of a win, Wanderers went down 1-0 as the firemen collected their eighth victory in nine outings and their second over the champions.
The win keeps them three points ahead of Robin Hood who have a game in hand, while Wanderers are virtually out of contention, nine points behind.
Steven Caines made certain of victory for the leaders when he netted in the 38th minute.
A minute later Thomas Gribbon of BAA was sent off for serious foul play, leaving Wanderers to battle with only 10 men.
With Fire and Robin Hood, the only unbeaten teams in the division, still to meet a second time, that match (on February 6) could have a major bearing on the championship. Hood won on Saturday in a match played without an official referee when they stopped Lobster Pot 3-0.
In other Division A matches, Prison Officers bounced back from last weekend's 11-0 hammering at the hands of Fire Service to beat North Village Rams 3-0.
Gary Ray and Millard Rawlins (2) scored the goals.
MR Onions netted three times in the last seven minutes to beat Mariners 5-1.
Gary Adams put Mariners in front after six minutes before Keith Donald equalised in the eighth. William Spence made it 2-1 in the 33rd before Gary Knight, Glenn Dunne and Andy Robinson netted in the 83rd, 84th and 86th minutes to put victory in the bag.
In Division B, leaders PHC Raiders made it 11 wins out of 11 with a 7-0 thrashing of Somerset Extros. Des Minors and substitute Kenny Burt both scored twice while Keith Bell, Yuossef Boucetta and Gary Mallory (own goal) accounted for the other goals.
Marlon Lindsay scored four times as third-placed Belco hammered Bermuda Pest Control 8-3. Berwin Thomas, Dennis Pimental, Craig Brangman and Gregory Holdipp got the others.
Exiles stayed in second place, three points ahead of Belco, with a 4-1 win over Devonshire Lions. Martin Siese scored twice and Blain Tucker and Alan Johnson the others while Jason Simons replied for Lions.
Wolves Pack beat St. George's All-Stars 5-3 as Casey Burgess netted a hat-trick while Horace Landy and substitute Derrick Douglas also tallied.
Duvall Smith and Delano Tweed (2) replied for St. George's.
The Commercial KO Cup match between Lobster Pot and Bermuda Pest Control, postponed on December 19, will be held on Saturday at White Hill Field at 1.00. The recently postponed league match between Robin Hood and MR Onions will take place at 3.00 at the same ground.
Meanwhile, the match between BAA and Lobster Pot has been moved from February 6 to February 13 at BAA Field.
