Flatts earn narrow win
Flatts 142-6 This First Division match was short on both players and officials, but at least there was some excitement as Flatts squeezed out a narrow two-wicket victory at Devonshire Rec.
Only one umpire showed up and both teams were also short -- Flatts with nine men and Warwick eight just a week before their two-day Western Counties final against champions Somerset Bridge.
Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Warwick managed 137 with Trent Simmons leading the way with 48 and opener Johnny Nusum scoring 19. Ritchie Foggo and Millard Rawlins both contributed 17.
Gordon Hollis led the Flatts bowling with three for 22 while Troy Dean claimed three for 31.
Flatts were well on their way to victory with an opening stand of 73 between Dean and Gershon Gibbons, with Dean scoring 41 and Gibbons 36.
However, after the stand was broken wickets fell regularly as Flatts found themselves struggling to reach the winning target. They lost their second wicket on 79 and then the last four went down for 16 runs before an unbroken stand of 25 between Neil Speight (12) and Derek Wright (14) completed the victory.
Dudley Lightbourne was the best of the four Warwick bowlers with four for 64 from 10 overs.
