club championship finalists, Richard Brewer and Dick Meredith, edged out of the tournament on Tuesday.

Brewer was beaten 3-2 by Andy McComb while Meredith went down to Rod Holloway by the same score. Both McComb and Holloway took full advantage of their four point leads against their opponents in close, five-game marathon matches.

McComb, returning to the game after a long lay-off, surprised himself with a 15-13, 7-15, 9-15, 15-13, 15-5 victory over Brewer. Holloway, the club president, thrilled the crowd with an unexpected 5-15, 15-8, 15-12, 9-15, 15-12 result against the very experienced Meredith.

In the semi-finals, Holloway is set to meet the winner of the Mel Caines-Tony Puplett match on Friday at 7.00 p.m. while McComb will meet either Eugene Bothello or Harry McKenzie at 8.00 p.m.
