The inaugural Bermuda Ladies Pro-Am Golf Classic gets underway today at Port Royal. Seven teams consisting of one professional and three amateurs are taking part in the 54-hole four-ball, two better-balls competition. Six of the teams are from the US with Belmont pro Judith Astwood skippering the one team representing the Island.
Although it was orginally hoped up to 30 teams might compete, tournament organiser Frank Rabain said he was not disappointed with the low turnout.
Rabin said: "It's only just starting up and we hope it's going to get better and better over the next few years.'' The three rounds of the main tournament take place today, Saturday and Monday, with a professionals-only chammpionship on Sunday.
