Girls Running Clock Basketball Tournament took place on Saturday.

The tournament, sponsored by Bermuda Restaurant Ltd, involved the top three finishers from last year's tournament, Berkeley, MSA and Chaffee, as well as hosts Saltus. The games consisted of two eight-minute halves with the clock stopping only for free throws and time-outs.

In round-robin play, Chaffee won all three of their games, beating Saltus by three points, MSA by three points and Berkeley by four points. MSA beat Berkeley by three points, Berkeley beat Saltus by five points and Saltus beat MSA by one point.

Chaffee were crowned champions after a solid performance by all team members as April McNeil led them as the high scorer for the tournament. MSA finished runners-up due to better points difference after ending the tournament level on points with Saltus and Berkeley.

CHESS CHS One of the year's biggest fields turned out for last week's first-leg action of the Hennessy Quick-Play tournament.

There was a welcome influx of new talent for the event with six neophytes among the 20 entries.

Several made their presence known, overhauling more experienced opposition as the handicapping system had a strong effect.

One not falling victim was first seed Richard Farleigh, who reinforced his status as the Island's top player, as he was the only one to win all four of his matches.

However, Farleigh will not be available for tonight's matches, leaving the title very much up for grabs.

Five players have three points and a further eight stand locked on two, so all have a shot at the top prize of a bottle of Hennessy.

Anyone who missed last week's play can join in tonight and receive two bye points if they register at the Chamber of Commerce by 7.45 p.m. The entry fee is $10.

NETBALL NET Sunday League leaders 7-Up Netts ran their season-long winning streak to nine games with a 30-0 default victory over Boulevard.

Closest challengers Olympic Panthers kept pace in downing Cooper and Lines 42-6 and remain two points adrift of the top spot.

In a low-scoring affair PCC squeaked past Netts 15-14, while Running Rebels similarly outlasted Wolves 23-12.

Meanwhile, in Overall Knockout play, Hamilton Parish eliminated North Village 20-12, Netts got past Wolves 26-19, while AICO and Warwick Redbirds defaulted to Cooper and Lines and Cardinals respectively.

7-Up Netts versus Boulevard was postponed due to inclement weather.

SOFTBALL SOF Social Club Jets will hold a meeting tonight at Young Men's Social Club at 8.00 for their players. Any new players are urged to attend.
