But Harvey's wasn't the longest hit of the day. That belonged to Andrew Bissell whose drive was measured at 310 yards.

However, the event -- the national long distance championships, organised by Sandys Rotary in conjunction with Cable & Wireless -- was decided by a three-ball shoot-out involving the day's ten longest drivers.

And in that competition, Harvey's 276-yarder proved the best.

Throughout the day some 175 golfers took part in the championships in which prizes were awarded in various age divisions.
