Hill king Hubbard wins again

extinguishing the competition during yesterday's Bermuda Bicycling Association's Hill Climb Championships.

Hubbard breezed over the steep incline from the Whaler Inn to the Southampton Princess Hotel, clocking one minute, 28.33 seconds.

His time bettered that of second place MacInnis Looby by just over five seconds, with Looby timed in 1.33.77. A distant third was Stephane Carpenter (1.40.56).

Seizing victory in the veteran category was Luis Muso (2.14.30) followed by John Plested (2.19.78) and Ashburn Parsley (2.20.09).

Meanwhile, Maggie Hateley (2.20.72) won the women's category and Duncan Simons (2.07.92) the juniors.

Eight competitors took part in an informal run over the hill afterwards, with Miguel Butterfield the fastest, finishing in 2.43.41.

But Hubbard showed that he too could cover some ground sans cycle, crossing the finish line in second place in 3.22.20.

Junior Kris Hedges, who also doubled up with the cycle and run, impressed with the third fastest run time of 3.28.13.
