Hood, BAA in title crunch
on Saturday between defending Commercial League champions Robin Hood and former champions BAA Wanderers.
Wanderers needed to win their match on Saturday to remain at least two points behind the leaders and they managed a 2-0 victory over Vasco Mariners. Martin Jones scored both goals, in the 23rd and 43rd minutes.
Hood had an early scare against third-placed Lobster Pot, falling behind to a Jim McLaren goal after 12 minutes before fighting back to win 3-1 and keep alive their hopes of a second straight title. They only need a draw against Wanderers to retain their crown.
Substitute Paul Scope got the equaliser in the 58th minute before Paul Towlson netted the second after 77 minutes and Jarleth McCabe cushioned the win with the third a minute from the end.
MR Onions returned to winning ways after their FA Cup exit in midweek, edging Fire Service 2-1 with top scorer Bill Spencer netting both goals. Brian Fubler replied for Fire.
Prison Officers blew a good chance to climb above PHC Raiders in the fight to avoid the second relegation spot as they managed only a 1-1 draw with Raiders which left PHC two points ahead with one game remaining. Craig Smith scored for Officers and Cal Waldron for the Raiders.
Raiders meet Lobster Pot in their last match on Saturday while Prison Officers play Fire Service. Tuff Dogs and Devonshire All-Stars are already confirmed as the two promoted teams from the B Division.
All-Stars went down 4-0 to Somerset Extros where Lloyd Telford and Mike Corday both scored twice for the west enders.
Third-placed St. George's All-Stars beat Devonshire Lions by default after Lions had just two players at the start. Valley hammered Wolves Pack 5-1 in the other match. Berwin Thomas and Troy Bean both scored penalties for their teams.
