Hornets aim to double up silverware haul

silverware tomorrow when they meet North Village in the Friendship Trophy final at the National Stadium (kick-off 4 p.m.).

The Hornets sealed their third championship last weekend with a crushing victory over Southampton Rangers, in the process denying Village the chance of the triple crown.

And tomorrow, the Red Devils will be looking to bounce back from that disappointment in the first of two cup finals in successive weekends. A week tomorrow, they will meet Devonshire Colts in the FA Cup final. For Town coach Andrew Bascome, his first season in charge of the St. John's Field outfit could hardly have been better.

After a stuttering start, his team produced some swashbuckling soccer in mid-season, including a 3-2 victory over Village which eventually proved decisive in the title race.

And with one major trophy already in the cabinet, Bascome is likely to be more relaxed than his Village counterpart Scott Morton when their charges clash again on "the carpet''.

Preceding the Friendship final will be the First Division's equivalent, the Shield final (2 p.m.).

St. David's and Somerset Eagles, two teams who were always in the thick of the battle for promotion but ended up missing out on the play-off spot, will be the contestants.

The two sides were the First Division's top scorers this season, so the omens look good for plenty of goals.

Rude Girls and Royals will meet tonight in the Women's Konica Cup final at Devonshire Rec. (8.20 p.m.).
