Hotels to meet PHC in Friendship opener
A busy week of night soccer continues tonight at BAA Field where the opening match in the Friendship competition takes place between Hotels and PHC (9.00).
The first game at 7.00 will see junior teams Boulevard and Devonshire Colts playing in the first round of the John Swan Knockout Cup competition.
Friendship matches will be held mostly on Thursday nights this season as North Village seek to retain the title they won in April when they beat Dandy Town in the final.
Judging by their opening matches, PHC should be favoured over Hotels tonight.
Both teams began their season at Somerset in the last week, Hotels going down 1-0 to Somerset last Friday and PHC stopping Devonshire Cougars 4-2 on Monday night.
Hotels have picked up former Wolves strikers Dion Wainwright and Marlon Lindsay to boost their attack and along with Dennis Robinson and Joseph Weeks they have capable goal scorers.
PHC have proven that despite losing several key players they still have considerable depth in their squad. Ricky Mallory, who netted twice against Cougars, will give their front line needed experience.
Other Friendship matches scheduled for the coming weeks see Boulevard taking on Southampton Rangers and North Village meeting Devonshire Colts in games that will guarantee the winners places in the semi-finals.
Because of the number of teams (10) the winners of the Vasco-Dandy Town and Somerset-Devonshire Cougars matches will meet to determine the final semi-final place.
Meanwhile, the Shield for Second Division teams, which traditionally runs alongside the Friendship, will begin on October 30 when St. George's meet last year's beaten finalists, Prospect.
