The next international action for Bermuda's senior national soccer team could be in July.

Mark Trott's men recently returned from Nashville after a two game tour -- losing 2-0 against the Nashville Metros of the A League and beating an Hispanic All-Stars team 4-1.

It had been hoped that the Miami Fusion of the Major Soccer League would be visiting the Island next month, but that is not now going to happen as they have been scheduled to take part in the US Cup on the dates in question.

However, Jon Beard, the BFA's coach of education and development, said there was more hope for another match. "We are looking towards playing in Iowa in July against Des Moines Menace, a semi-pro team in the PDL Division,'' he said.

"They have invited us to play there in a similar arrangement to Nashville, whereby they will look after our basic expenses once we are there.

"Obviously we cannot make any commitment until we can secure funding for air fares and to cover any players' wages whose employers will not cover them.

"It would obviously be a very good step in our national team development programme.'' Beard said the BFA were also hoping to get the Island's youth teams some matches in July. "On that note it has been great to see all of our teams in regular training,'' he said. "We have about 75 youngsters -- Under-13, Under-15 and Under-18 boys and Under-19 girls -- and the national men's and women's teams all out training at least twice a week. All are under the guidance of qualified coaches.'' Beard said he was particularly glad to see the level of parental involvement at the youth sessions. "Hopefully we can continue to develop the programme from these beginnings,'' he said.
