Around 300 spectators watched 39 trottingbreds compete in 26 races under the floodlights at the national Equestrian Centre in Vesey Street.

The fastest time of the night was achieved by Eddie Roque's Tuxedo Bowtie, who won the Free for All B division in 1:07.2. Right on his heels was Michael DeCosta's Grand Shady in 1:07.3.

Roque was the top driver with four wins, two each with Bowtie and Bowtie's Pocketwatch.

Several new ponies enjoyed at least one win, including Final Explosion (Arthur Hurst), LA Winning Ticket (Bill Booth), Yemma Chane (Michael DeCosta), Janydys Desert Storm (Francis DeSilva) and Rocket Ride (Bobby DeGraffe).

Championne County, driven by new owner Michael Soares, picked up where she left off last season and won both her heats in fine style. In her second heat she came from number four position to win.

Two junior drivers were on the track for the first time. Aaron Madeiros made it a memorable night by winning a heat of the Junior Free For All with Brittany Gold. And Philip Correia, better known for his riding, bagged a second and a third driving Nateway.

Senior driver Joe Correia made his debut with Gold Mate and finished second both times.

The next racing card is planned for this Saturday, post time 6.30 p.m.
