IV on Sunday in winning the race for the Jubilee Cup, as the local dinghy

The Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club entry, skippered by Willie White, was not only able to savour another victory, but moved within one win of tying the overall series with the St. George's Dinghy and Sports Club.

Seventy-nine races have been sailed since the event's inception during 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. That first race took place on September 23, and since then it has become a keen point of interest for the two clubs.

Currently the scoreline reads 40-39 in favour of St. George's.

Meanwhile, the loss left the Victory crew pondering another lacklustre year, which saw them record just one win and several sinkings, resulting in a lowly position near the bottom of the Coronation Cup standings with 551 points.

Only Bloodhound was worse, totalling 43 points -- Challenger won the title with 1073 points.

KARTING KRT The 1993-94 Bermuda Karting Club season opened over the weekend with 10 karts taking to the track at the US Naval Annex in Southampton.

The closest series occurred in the Yamaha Division where Jason North and Edwin Wickham produced a spirited duel that saw the former emerge with the early lead on 22 points compared to 21 for the latter.

Another close race is developing in the 80cc Division where Sinclair Vickers (23 points) heads Peter O'Neil (21 points).

Meanwhile, John Rawlins (27 points) leads the 125 Division as he took advantage of a breakdown by Richard Wallington (6 points).

Finally, among the 100cc Division veteran driver David (Pops) Chisnell developed his share of mechanical problems, but still managed to fend off the challenge of Chris Maiato.

Anyone interested in joining the Bermuda Karting Club are advised to call Ronald Wallington at 236-7277 (after 6 p.m.).

The second-round score gave Mansell a two-round total of 144 and a decisive six-stroke advantage over three others -- Roger Harvey, Hav Trott and Steve Duxbury -- all locked on 150.

Meanwhile, Barry Souza took net honours, recording 136 for the two days.

Mansell similarly enjoyed a good outing during the September Monthly Medal at Belmont as he carded a net 65 total to lead Souza by a single stroke and Rodney Burchall by two shots.
