Jennings in seventh heaven
Commercial Cricket League on Sunday with devastating bowling figures of seven for seven.
Jennings' haul from 9.5 overs, the best league performance of the season, coupled with Cal Smith's three for 11, bundled out Sandys Sports Club for a paltry 30, the lowest total this year.
Village, who won the toss and batted first at Warwick Secondary, were earlier dismissed for a modest 120 themselves, Steve Bremar and Galen Richardson each picking up three wickets. Elliott Pitcher topscored with 31.
Top scorer for Sandys, who were dismissed in 18.5 overs, was their No. 11 batsman Terry Ward with seven not out.
North Village's victory -- their fifth from six matches -- lifted them to 50 points but Forties and West Indian Association stayed in touch five points behind with contrasting victories.
Forties beat Devonshire Stars off the last ball of the match at Garrison Field while WIA beat St Michael by default. Defending champions PHC lost ground in the title race when they drew against Safeguard Security at Malabar in a match reduced by the captains to 40 overs a side.
Confusion over pitch arrangements saw St Michael, the home side, and WIA turn up at Warwick Secondary along with Village and Sandys. St Michael's Leon Dickinson conceded the game to WIA skipper Jerry Callender.
It was the second week running that WIA picked up easy points. The previous Sunday they beat Safeguard Security when last man Alex Walker refused to bat with both skippers prepared to settle for a draw in the fading light.
A fourth-wicket stand of 114 between Dave Woodhead and Allan Lee provided the backbone of Forties' 189 for nine declared, Woodhead hitting three sixes and five fours in his 61 from 73 balls. Lee's 46 contained three sixes and three fours. Gary Ascento was Stars' top bowler with four for 41 from 15 overs.
Skipper Gordon Campbell (three for nine) reduced Stars to 10 for three and Gary Edwards picked up for four 24 but Stars' dogged rearguard action appeared likely to secure a draw until newcomer Dave Geraghty bowled No. 11 Fred Simon with the final ball.
Safeguard Security lost Herman James to the first ball against PHC but a knock of 61 by Barry Walkes, which contained four sixes and five fours, helped lift his side from a precarious 76 for six to 165 for nine.
Shawn Spencer dented the figures of Lyle Millett, who finished with four for 76 from 18 overs, by clouting 18 off his final over on the way to an unbeaten 33.
Walkes then chipped in with two for 24 and new signing William Sarjeant followed up his 26 by taking two for 32 but PHC settled for a draw, reaching 133 for six. Dennis Bell topscored with 36.
William (Boxhead) Minors, who began the day with an average of 139.5, took boundaries off the first two balls from Frankie Bento but Bento soon had his revenge, bowling Minors for eight with the last ball of the over.
ELLIOTT JENNINGS -- Boasted bowling figures of seven for seven.
