SQUASH SQU Top Bermuda youth squash player Nicholas Kyme was on Sunday crowned number one at the New England Interscholastic Squash Championships.
The 17-year-old, captain of the Taft School in Connecticut and their number one player, made amends for his semi-final defeat in the competition a year ago by sweeping to victory with a 9-6, 9-5, 9-6 triumph over Win Tangjaitrong of The Brooks School, his opponent in the semis last year.
In the semi-final Kyme demolished Peter Karlen from Andover 9-2, 9-0, 9-3.
Karlen was the only player in the league to take a game off Taft's top player this season, but Kyme proved too much for him this time around.
The Taft school swept the 31 team championships, taking all five divisions and setting a record for number of points earned by a team as well as the fewest games lost during the tournament (one). This follows an undefeated season (17-0) during which they shut out every other team they played.
This week Kyme returns home to defend his Bermuda Club Championship being held at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association in Devonshire and to vie for a position on Bermuda's national team due to participate in the Northern Caribbean Championships next month.
