Kaliber Cup goes to Old Colony
Sports Club 3-2 in the last match of the season.
The win enables OCC to finish two points ahead of defending champions National Sports Club and three points clear of Queens Club. The league title went down to the wire as two of the OCC wins, Phil Lambert over Anthony DeSilva and Brian Haxton over Alan Simons were decided by a single points with both games being black ball games.
Dennis Coyle also won for OCC as he beat Zane DeSilva. Sandys' points came from Gary Skinner and Roger (Sticks) Henderson.
First Division player of the week and aggregate champion Steve Bremar led Warwick to a 3-2 win over Nationals to crush their hopes for a come-from-behind league title.
Bremar beat Mike Tatem 69-36 and was joined by Steve Dunleavy and Dennis Eve who took the last four coloured balls for a 22-break in his game against Paul Charleton. Tyler Moniz and Tony DeSilva won for Nationals.
Third-placed Queens Club finished the season on a high note as they whitewashed Police 5-0 away from home. Greg Falzone made a league high seventh 20-break to lead Queens and was supported by wins from Sandy Sandhu, Graham Williams, Stephen Roberts and Tony DeSilva. In an ironic twist of circumstances Police, who won this year's Gosling Cup knockout, will be relegated to the Second Division next season.
The champagne flowed at Queens Club as they captured the Second Division Swizzle Cup and promotion to the First Division despite losing to St. George's 3-2. Wins from Ed Gumbs and Nick Mansell settled it as Warwick were only able to get two points from Spanish Point.
Winning their frames for St. George's were Reginald (Honky) Burrows, Edwin Hayward and William Peniston who was named Second Division player of the week for making a 20-break in his match against Glenn Flood.
Leading Spanish Point to their 3-2 win over St. George's were Eddie Roberts, Kenny Wheatley, Sr. and Larry Mello.
Richard Oliver again won for OCC III to prevent a whitewash against OCC's second squad. Paul Lowry, Ed Ng, Geoff Stone and L.Millen won for OCC.
OCC I, Nationals and Queens II have qualified for the league play-offs. The last spot will be decided by a match between Warwick II and St. George's who finished tied for second in the Second Division.
The game will be played next Wednesday at OCC.
