Karters set for city Grand Prix -- Drivers start your engines! While it may not be Le Mans or the streets of Monaco, all eyes will be on Front Street

to throng the trackside as the karters move from their more traditional surroundings at Clearwater Beach to the streets of Hamilton. Competitors will race in seven classes when the event gets underway at 12 noon. Karters will start at the Number One Shed, head along Front Street, around the Bank of Bermuda before turning right onto Front Street and heading off towards Queen Street. After negotiating a hairpin turn they will race in the direction of the Bank of Butterfield and then make the dash for the finish line at Number One Shed. Last year Rian Lindo took the honours in the Komer Heavy class, Blake Camara in the Komer Light and Luis Martin in the Open class. Jason (Skuzzie) North took the checkered flag in the Yamaha Medium and Shifter classes. Around 8,000 people witnessed last year's event. "It's not something people see every day on Front Street,'' said Bermuda Karting Association secretary Donna Lindo. The ages of those taking part will vary from the young to the not so young. "The youngest driver is nine and then we have a senior citizen who I think is 68,'' said Lindo. "It's a challenge that gets the drivers pumped up. They really look forward to it.'' Organisers say the event costs in the region of $18,000 to $20,000 to stage and funds will be boosted
