Kenny's double lifts Boulevard

For the second time in this tie North Village were asked to battle back from twice being a goal down.

This time they failed as a double strike from Kenny Hill last night at PHC Stadium lifted FA Cup champions Boulevard into the last four of the competition.

However, the 24-year-old former Wolves striker might not have gotten the chance for that second goal in extra time had another Hill -North Village's Ricky -- scored a gift chance for North Village seven minutes into injury time.

Kenny Hill's two goals was all that could decide this close quarter-final replay.

Despite the slippery conditions both teams played adventurous soccer from the outset. Boulevard got early reward when Hill broke the deadlock in the 12th minute after a cross from the left saw his first shot blocked. However, he was quick to pounce on the rebound which he planted past goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams with his left foot from eight yards.

Village never panicked in their search for the equaliser and enjoyed a fair share of the pressure as they picked up their game in the difficult conditions.

The chances kept falling to Ricky Hill as on the half-hour he bent to meet a Rahji Edness cross which skidded inside the box and put his header past the far post from close range.

Boulevard finished the half with a couple of good raids, first when midfielder Clinton Caisey shot straight at Adams following a Dean Boyles cross and then a minute later when an on-target shot from Carlos Pearman was blocked in front of goal.

Village began the second half with Edness switching to left-back and college student Richard Todd going over to the other defensive flank as Kacy Simons moved forward from fullback into a midfield role.

Village had both good luck and bad luck in the space of a minute midway through the second half as they erased the Boulevard lead in the 66th minute through an Elliott Jennings close range strike after a Rahji Edness freekick on the left side saw Kevin Jennings lay the ball back for his captain.

A minute later Kevin Jennings was taken off on a stretcher after being floored by a Dean Boyles tackle. Some five minutes were lost as Jennings received treatment for the injury and though the ambulance was called, when it did arrive minutes later the youngster had limped back to the Village bench. The ambulance personnel checked with him before leaving empty-handed.

A brilliant move by Kenny Hill nearly brought him a second goal in the 79th minute when he turned inside the box and unleashed a fierce shot from 15 yards that was smartly tipped one-handed over the bar by Adams.

Seven minutes of injury time was played, because of the Jennings injury and another stoppage, and twice during time-added-on the match could have been won.

Kenny Hill had a shot blocked on the goalline after a touch-on by Dwight Warren inside the box and then Ricky Hill, with the goal at his mercy, shot well wide after substitute Eugene (Hammer) Simmons did the hard work on the left to set him up.

Simmons' cross was stopped by defender Albert Caisey but Hill was quick to rob him only to put his effort well wide from an angle inside the box.

Kenny Hill was left to settle the tie a minute-and-half into the first period of extra time with his 11th goal of the season and his 38th for the club since joining them two seasons ago.

The clincher came when a cross to the near post by Amon Brown saw Warren control and lay the ball back for Hill who beat Adams at the near post with a volley.

Village battled to the end for the equaliser but the Boulevard defence, marshalled by Wayne Richardson and George Smith in the middle absorbed the pressure to earn a semifinal meeting with Vasco later this month.
