Team-mates Jason Krupp, Steve Millington and Greg Hopkins took the first three places on general classification when times for the three stages were calculated at the end of the two-day event.

Action began on Sunday morning at Southside, St. David's, with a three-mile prologue time trial, followed immediately by a 45-minute criterium with a 50-mile road race on Monday morning the final event.

It was Krupp who set the fastest time of the day for the time trial of six minutes, 50 seconds with his closest challenger, Jonathan Herring, coming home in 7.07 and triathlete Kent Richardson third in 7.11.

Entering the second stage, a 45-minute criterium event over a short technical course, the Winners Edge riders were clearly protecting Krupp's lead which was being threatened by some aggressive attacks from Steve Sterritt and Richardson.

Herring, who had already indicated he would not be competing on the Monday, was allowed to ride away unchallenged for victory in 49.26 with Krupp, Hopkins and Richardson battling it out in the final stages. Krupp extended his lead by five seconds in a sprint finish between the three riders, finishing in 51.38 with Richardson and Hopkins finishing together in 51.43 as Hopkins watched Richardson's every move.

In the final event, a tough 50-mile road race on Monday, all that was left for the Winners Edge riders was to protect Krupp's lead. After an early breakaway that reached over a minute at one stage with juniors Matthew Herring, Nick Taylor, newcomer Martin Pettit, Karl Outerbridge and veteran Vic Ball cycling together, Millington and Hopkins worked at the front of the main pack and eventually pulled the leaders back.

The next 20 miles saw attack after attack as Richardson gamely fought to get an advantage but with about six laps of the race remaining, Millington and Earl Godfrey broke from the field with Richardson, Hopkins and Krupp between them and the main pack.

Richardson finally succumbed to the incessant attacks from Krupp and Hopkins.

On the final lap, Millington and Krupp broke free to finish together in 2:08.51 while Hopkins came in third in 2:10.18 after leaving Godfrey. The hard-chasing Richardson was fourth in 2:10.44 after breaking clear of the field.

With the final results tabulated, Krupp's accumulated time was 3:07.19, ahead of Millington in 3:08.01 while Hopkins at 3:09.33 was just five seconds ahead of Richardson in 3:09.38.

Julia Hawley completed an impressive weekend, winning the category three division which saw her protect the lead she had from a strong time trial on the first day. After a third place finish in the criterium and second in the road race, she took honours over Martin Pettit as they were timed in 3:10.52 and 3:11.11 respectively.

Paulo Medeiros was the winner of the veterans' category in 3:13.00 over Steven Petty and Francois Bertrand in 3:25.38 and 3:37.52 respectively after veteran king, Vic Ball, was penalised for failing to make the start line for the 50-mile road race. Despite finishing the race after joining it after half a lap, he was shown as a DNF in the final results.

Jeana Godfrey was a clear winner in the women's division with Nick Taylor taking honours in the junior male 15-16 group.

Matthew Herring rode an aggressive race, battling with the senior riders for as long as he was able and winning the junior boys' 13-14 category. Other winners were Desmond Trott in the boys' 11-12, Ricky Sousa in the 10-and-under boys and Yolanda Smith in the female 17-18.
