Kwame Tucker used his First Division experience to lead Somerset to yet another piece of silverware this season -- the Bantam Knockout Cup on Tuesday
Tucker was in a class of his own as he scored five times to help the young Trojans beat Devonshire Colts 7-4 in the final after extra time. Somerset were given a good start when Tucker and then Najee Woods scored to give them a 2-0 lead after only 18 minutes to see Colts hit back to lead 3-2 on goals from Aljame Zuill (54th) and Julian Francis (58th and 59th).
Somerset made it 3-3 just before the end of regulation time with Tucker's second goal only to see Colts take the lead again in the see-saw battle through Earl Bean a minute into extra time.
The Trojans enjoyed a similiar scoring burst with three goals in five minutes as Marco Butterfield found the net in the 81st minute and Tucker kept it going with further strikes in the 85th and 86th minutes to make it 6-4 by the end of the first period of extra time. Tucker closed out the scoring with his fifth goal of the match in the second period of extra time.
Two junior make-up matches will take place tonight at PHC Stadium. At 6.00 in the Bantam Division, PHC take on Dandy Town before the PHC Premier League team go up against Boulevard at 7.30.
The result of Tuesday night's FA Cup semifinal was 4-2 and not 4-1 as reported in yesterday's paper. Neil Paynter scored Town's second goal in the 89th minute from a corner.
SOFTBALL SOF The bats came alive for BF&M on Tuesday night, scoring 33 runs in a Commercial Softball League double-header against Alexander Insurance and Advertising Associates.
Not only did the run splurge secure two additional victories under their belts, BF&M suddenly found themselves in the dizzying heights of first place in Division `D' by the time the night was over.
They now share first place with Business Systems and Centre Re, who also have 11-5 records.
BF&M pitcher Ken Williams hung on for both victories despite coughing up 19 runs in the twinbill. He pitched much better in the first game against Alexander Insurance, when BF&M registered a 15-6 triumph. Luckily, BF&M bats stayed hot in the second game as they defeated Advertising Associates 18-13 in the high-scoring nightcap.
But it was Jose Ferreira -- or should we say Canseco -- who played the starring role of the night, socking four hits in five plate appearances, including a triple, driving in three runs in Game One against Alexander Insurance. He then laced three more hits, a single, double and triple in the second game against Advertising Associates, driving in four more runs. His two-game total added up to a sparkling seven RBI, four singles, one double and two triples. He came within one hit -- a home run would have done the trick -- of hitting for the cycle in game two.
Other hitting stars for BF&M were Danny Bucher in game one, with two hits, and Donny Moniz (three hits, five RBI) in game two.
ACT overpowered BNTB Flyers 16-6 in the final game of the night as Richard Davidge went four-for-four with a home run, double and six RBI. Ed Frey punched out three more hits, two of them doubles. Bryan Kendrick and Mark Rousselle each had two hits for the losing side. Scott Corday was the winning pitcher with Dave Moore taking the loss.

New Mix Ups continued their fine run of upsets with a 251 -41 triumph over Franklin Travel with Clem Lespere spearheading their drive with an outstanding performance. Victor Simons was the only bowler breaking the 500-mark for the losers.
Goslings beat Spoilers 20-10 with Hilton Hayward rolling a high score.
Marlboro crushed Team Spirit 28-2 and in doing so won by over 700 pins, which was the highest margin of victory for the year. Richard Zuill led them with a top series of 676 and a second high game of 248 while team-mate Doug Hines had a 610 series.
The other game saw leaders Tools and Equipment get over Stevedoring Services 21-7 with Dean Lightbourn rolling a 631 series while Roger Raynor led the losers with a 269 high game.
Tonight's Schedule: Nex Mix Ups v Stevedoring, Spoilers v Signature Card, Franklin Travel v Team Spirit, Tomps Towing v T&E, Marlboro v Goslings.
