attention with their goalscoring exploits in England.

And though no concrete offers have come in for either of the Bermuda internationals, Goater's agent Mark Georgevic believes something could develop at any time.

"I have a strange feeling that before March one of them will go,'' Georgevic said yesterday from England.

Georgevic said both players were doing "exceptionally well'', Goater with Second Division Rotherham United for whom he has scored 18 goals and Lightbourne at promotion-seeking Third Division Walsall, having led them into second place in the standings with 16 goals this season.

Both players are well within reach of their 20-goal targets this season, and could end up with as many as 30, Georgevic said.

"The most important factor in Shawn's development this season is he now has a manager in Archie Gemmill who believes in him and is playing the game through Shawn, to Shawn's strength.

"I think Shawn will get 30 goals this season and to get 30 goals in a team like Rotherham would be a terrific achievement. They are not a particularly strong side.

"At Walsall, Kyle is playing alongside a very experienced and good striker in Kevin Wilson and I think they are going to get promoted. Kyle is getting a lot of opportunities and is playing in a good side and I think he can get 30 goals.'' Goater came close to a move up to a higher division at the start of the season when newly-promoted First Division Port Vale showed interest. That interest cooled when Goater had a slow start to the season but now Georgevic feels they made a big mistake in not signing him at what could have been a bargain price.

"They (Port Vale) are now in the bottom three and have scored 28 goals in 24 games and if Shawn Goater was there they would be much higher up in the league.

"I would have thought if Port Vale had signed Shawn -- and we were close to agreeing personal terms -- and taken him to a tribunal I reckon they wouldn't have paid much more than 150,000. Now I personally think Shawn is worth at least double that.'' Clubs are also taking notice of Goater's Bermuda team-mate, Lightbourne, who has a perfect opportunity to grab the headlines this weekend when Walsall host Premier League Leeds United in the FA Cup where giant killing acts often occur.

"I get the Midland newspapers and Kyle is always scoring good goals,'' said Georgevic. "The reports on him are very good.'' In the Sports Argus newspaper recently, under the headline "Stand by for giants to fall'' referring to the Walsall-Leeds clash, Kyle was mentioned as a possible threat.

"Kevin Wilson, the player coach, has been excellent, linking up superbly with top scorer Kyle Lightbourne who is bound to be attracting the attention of big clubs with his all-round skill and finishing ability. These two will prove a handful for Leeds,'' the article read.

Said team-mate Chris Marsh, who was quoted in the same article: "Kyle Lightbourne hit two more in the second half (in the 4-0 win over Barnet). Our two front men are on fire at the moment and apart from getting goals they also work their socks off for the team.'' In the match against Doncaster on Saturday, Lightbourne was named man-of-the-match though he didn't score in the 1-0 win which made it three straight victories for Walsall over the holiday period.

The match report read: "Walsall were unlucky not to take the lead in the fourth minute when Ryder touched the ball for top scorer Lightbourne to swivel and hammer a peach of a left foot shot against the far post with the keeper beaten.'' Lightbourne grabbed similar headlines in his last full season in Bermuda football in 1991-92 when he netted 33 times for PHC Zebras. If he can match that number, a move to a a bigger club would appear inevitable.

"He's scoring headers and shots and scored a tremendous volley the other week,'' Georgevic recalled.

"My club (Coventry City) went to Walsall to watch a midfield player and Kyle scored two cracking goals.

"I think Kyle might be in the headlines on Sunday morning. The transfer market starts to become more fluid after the third round of the cup. For example, if, unfortunately, Walsall went out you might find a club making an offer for one of their players and Walsall having to think about it realistically once they are no longer in the cup.'' Not since Clyde Best left West Ham for the United States in 1975 has a Bermudian played at the highest level in England. Twenty years later that could change.

"If one of them does move it would provide wonderful opportunities for Bermuda as well,'' Georgevic said.

"I hope that we will get some more Bermudians coming over and playing in the British game and people will take note. Bermuda will get its name on the map again. Everybody remembers Clyde Best.'' Kyle Lightbourne Shawn Goater
