Lights out for the Lampshades
the Division One quarter-finals, when they narrowly defeated The Lampshades by a 5-4 margin in the AF Smith Corporate Team Squash Tournament.
Christine Barnes and Lisanne Dorion gave the Lampshades a 4-2 lead by each beating their respective opponents, Dave McNay and Alison Cameron, 2-1.
This left Mike Harvey, Last Minute Entry's number one string, the mammoth task of winning all three games against former Barbados ladies champion, Tessa McKenzie. Starting the first game with a 14-point deficit, McKenzie clawed back to 11-14 before Harvey sneaked in a winning kill to take the first game.
Capitalising on his winning streak, Harvey stormed through the second game to win 15-2. This narrowed the handicap margin to a minus seven start for McKenzie and a seesaw battle ensued to leave the game level at 13-all.
Many favoured the chances of McKenzie, the more experienced player, at this point but Harvey rose to the occasion to take the deciding game 15-14.
The Division One quarter-final line-up for tonight promises some exciting match play. Rough Riders will play the Rattcocks, which will include a clash between current club champion Tommy Sherratt and Bermuda national team-mate Mel Caines. Sherratt will start the match with a 16 point deficit.
Meanwhile, Norm's Storms will take on West End Warriors in what is also expected to be a close contest. Number one strings Norman Furtado and Harry McKenzie will begain their match with McKenzie on minus eight.
The action starts at 6.00 p.m.
