Like mother, like son.^.^.
Forward Freight National Squash Championships.
On Tuesday Nick breezed into the semi-finals of the mens event with a win over Richard Brewer.
Last night it was the turn of his mother to grab the headlines.
No stranger to honours at the Devonshire courts over years, Kyme swept to victory in the Ladies Veterans Category when she defeated Christine Barnes 3-1.
In a match that for many was too close to call, Barnes started the strongest, combining tight, consistent length with clever anticipation to claim the first game 9-5.
The second seemed to be following similar lines with Kyme unable to find her natural rhythm and Barnes easily reading her front court play.
At 8-1 down, however, Kyme dug deep and began to claw her way back into the match, pulling off a series of spectacular winners at crucial moments and capitalising on her opponent's untimely errors to take the game 9-8.
The third game continued to be hard-fought with Kyme again coming from behind to win 10-8 as Barnes began to tire.
The pace refused to slacken in the fourth and it became increasingly clear which player would last the course.
At 8-5 down, and despite her gutsy determination to run down every ball, Barnes had no more answers to the questions posed by Kyme.
Nothing but admiration should be reserved for the Ladies Veterans Champion who has endured many painful hard months on the long and arduous road back from a serious knee injury to once again emerge as a major force in Bermuda squash.
Hot shot: Bermuda's Nick Kyme prepares for his Mens Division One semi-final clash tonight in the Fast Forward Freight National Squash Championships.
