Lions are stung as Hornets hit seven
Paget roared into this FA Cup replay touting themselves as Lions, however Dandy Town ensured they crawled away no more than a tame Tabby following a 7-1 shellacking at the Den last night.
Indeed the Ord Road club bore the full `sting' of the Hornets, who proved that the previous 1-1 draw that forced the replay was a freak result.
From the outset Town attacked in waves, pinning Paget on the defensive and it appeared but a matter of time before the minnows would cave in under the pressure.
Yet, to the surprise of most it was Paget who found the target first through a piece of magic from Omar Shakir against the run of play in the 18th minute.
Shakir, finding himself unmarked five yards outside the penalty area, showed amazing dead ball power in rifling home a left-foot bullet that caught Town goalkeeper Mark Trott completely unaware.
The cheers of the Paget faithful had barely begun to subside when Town equalised, the energetic Raymond Beach thundering home a left-wing cross from Paul Cann just inside the left upright 24 minutes on.
Carlos Smith would have given Town the lead a minute later if not for the acrobatics of Wayne Smith, who produced a diving save to deny the forward.
There would be no denying Lloyd Christopher after 35 minutes, the defender registering a rare tally, having the ball skim off his forehead into the roof of the net following an inswinging corner by Darron Simons.
Chief orchestrators of the massacre were Paul Cann and Devarr Boyles, who simply ruled over their midfield counterparts.
Kuma Smith notched Town's third seven minutes into the second half, shaking off a challenge by Azhar to force the ball over the line.
And moments later Carlos Smith made it 4-1 as he converted a penalty after Simons was brought down in the area.
Paget were clearly a beaten bunch by this time, yet Town refused to release the accelerator.
Boyles got in on the act in the 58th minute, benefiting greatly from the groundwork laid by Cann who tore the defence apart before laying the ball back for his onrushing team-mate to blast home.
Simons wrapped up matters, first in the 61st minute with a dipping effort from 16 yards, and then sneaking one in at the near post as he got on the end of a Cann cross.
Wolves 3 Hamilton Parish 0 Wolves qualified for the next round of the FA Cup by beating a game, but ultimately overmatched Hamilton Parish outfit.
Second-half strikes from Nakia Smith, Adam Outerbridge and Diallo Sharrieff accounted for the 3-0 scoreline, which should have been much higher.
After a mediocre first half that revealed several chances but no conversions Wolves turned up the heat, and it was the Hot Peppers that got burned.
Smith scored on a spectacular volley from 15 yards out that gave Andre Smith no chance three minutes following the break and Outerbridge followed with a similarly spectacular header of a pinpoint cross from Anthony Thomas to settle the result.
Sharrieff added further insurance 10 minutes from time, crashing a free-kick against the cross-bar, but followed up nicely to slam the rebound home.
