Local stars improve
overall to 22nd after the second day of the Bacardi Cup in Key Biscayne, Florida yesterday.
The lead in the 54-boat Star Class also changed as Hellmich of Germany dropped to fourth overall after placing 11th yesterday. Ron Sandstrom, who was second, finished well down the fleet in 37th to slip to 16th overall while Don Campbell also slipped off the pace after finishing 12th yesterday. He is seventh overall.
American John Kostecki won yesterday's race to take over first place while Vince Brun, who was second, is second overall.
"A lot of the guys who did well yesterday didn't do too good today, so it's pretty tight,'' said Bromby last night.
"We did well ourselves until the last beat. We probably had as good a start as anybody today and I think we will do better tomorrow.'' Bromby said a 30-degree wind shift on the first leg set them back. They improved on the second windward leg from 28th to about 13th but at the last leeward mark a 25-degree shift dropped them to 19th.
Racing continues through to Friday with five of the six races counting.
