Lopes thrown in harness race
attracted the biggest racecard of the season. Work carried out last week improved the track surface and helped 12 ponies break the 1:10 mark.
The meeting also produced the first accident of the season when David Lopes, driving L/A Erma Time, was thrown from his sulky after hooking wheels with Ponder Babe, driven by Daniel Greenslade. Neither driver nor pony was injured, but there was some equipment damage.
There were several double winners, including three young mares. Two-year-olds Ponder Dawn (Michael Roberts) and Gold Mate (Nick DeCosta) both went to the winners' circle twice, while three-year-old TrotAcre Byrd won her ninth race of the season for owner Robert Lopes.
Shamrock Formal Attire won both heats of the Junior Free For All in 1:09.3 and 1:07.3, beating Samantha Hayward's Meteau Design (1:07.4) into second place in the first race. Both ponies will now join the Free For All class for the fastest ponies in Bermuda.
Young Nick DeCosta was the day's top driver with four wins, while Eddie Roque enjoyed three victories.
The next race day is scheduled for Saturday, December 4.
