MacKenzie makes it three in a row
his third straight Bermuda Senior Golf Championship title at Riddell's Bay yesterday.
Leading the 54-hole tournament by three shots overnight, MacKenzie pulled further ahead to finish five shots clear of local player Rod Holloway, who in turn nipped first day leader Noel Van Putten by one shot.
A member of the Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey, scratch handicapper MacKenzie won on his first visit when he was invited to compete in 1997 by former Bermuda Golf Association president Brendan (Bees) Ingham. And he hasn't been beaten since.
He finished this week's tournament on 216 as Belco employee Holloway carded a final round 72 to total 221. Van Putten finished on 222 after a last round of 73.
Low net winner was Nyal Clinton on 199 as he edged Teddy Greaves on retrogression.
In the 36-hole women's championship, Joan Foulger narrowly held onto her overnight lead to pip Caroline Hammond by a shot.
Foulger shot 86 yesterday for a 171 total while Hammond also carded 86 for 172. Gill Riihiluoma (86-89) placed third on 175.
Low net winner was Dorothy Burchall on 141.
