Manders hangs tough
semi-final of the ITF Caribbean Development 14 and under tennis tournament in Trinidad.
In his quarter-final match, Manders outfought number five seed, David Mohammed of Trinidad. The pair were tied at one set each when Manders went 3-0 up in the third.
However Mohammed wasn't ready to concede defeat and won the next four games on the trot. Manders' determination won out in the end though, the player eventually triumphing 6-4 in the set and 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 overall.
In the semi-final Manders faces the number one seed, Devan McCartney of Barbados. Before booking his berth the Bermudian had seen off the threat of St. Vincent's Brendell Toussaint, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Bermuda's Sasha Fisher lost in the girls quarter-final to H-Ann Johnson of Antigua. Johnson proved the more consistent of the two players, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
However, Fisher did have some joy in the play-off for fifth position, beating Tamisha Hurley 6-2, 6-0.
Kyle Williams advanced in the boys consolation beating Brent Kueitung of Trinidad 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
He then saved two match points against Onaje Lewis of the US Virgin Islands to win 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 and advance to a play-off for 14th place in the championship.
In the girls' doubles semi-final, Fisher and Stephanie Velasquez of Aruba take on Joanne Van Aerde of Surinam and Larissa Morris of St Vincent.
