Marshall 27th in US rankings

according to the November 9 edition of the Rolex/Nicklaus women's individual rankings, administered by the College Golf Foundation.

It's believed to be the highest-ever ranking by a Bermudian student. Marshall, a senior at Wake Forest in North Carolina, has been an outstanding player for her school for the past three years.

The Rolex/Nicklaus individual rankings are released 12 times throughout the college golf season. The next rankings will be announced on December 13.

The Foundation also administers the Rolex Collegiate Tour, a 150-event circuit supporting 75 men's and 75 women's collegiate golf tournaments.

Bermuda Golf Association's Monthly Medal takes place at Ocean View this Saturday. Entries should be called into BGA secretary Tom Smith (238-1367) before 6.00 p.m. this evening.

SAILING SLG Christian Luthi topped a fleet of 11 boats in Sunday's Laser class racing off Spanish Point Boat Club.

Luthi won three races and finished second in two others during the six-race (one throwout) series.

His only serious threat came from Brett Wright who finished strongly, winning two of the last three heats, but still came up short by three and a quarter points.

Ted Wood came in third with consistent placing in the top five. And a rapidly improving Roger Mello finished fourth with Craig Davis, who won the opening race but then slipped back, taking fifth overall.

ROAD RUNNING RUN Bermuda road runner Fran Tucker has raised several thousand dollars for the Patients Assistance League Service (PALS) by completing Sunday's New York City Marathon.

Tucker, who distributed sponsorship forms on the Island before Sunday's event, finished her first 26-miler in 4:39.00, despite the bitterly cold weather which forced several runners to drop out.

An official presentation to PALS of the money raised will be made some time during the next few weeks.

Tucker's time was mistakenly omitted from the group of Bermuda finishers published in yesterday's Gazette .
