New twist for corporate relay

the past, will take on a new route tomorrow when it gets under way from National Sports Club on Middle Road in Devonshire.

There are 110 teams in six categories, down six from last year.

The first leg, a two-mile loop takes the runners from Nationals, east onto Middle Road to Vesey Street, onto Parson's Lane and back to Middle Road before returning to Nationals.

The second leg also takes the runners east on Middle Road from Nationals, up to Store Hill and left down to North Shore Road. From there the runners travel west back to Barker's Hill, onto Parson's Lane to Middle Road and back to Nationals.

The third leg also turns down Store Hill and west along North Shore to Palmetto Road, onto Parson's Lane, through Orange Valley to the Devonshire Post Office and back to Nationals via Middle Road.

The final leg sees the runners again turning down on Store Hill to North Shore and up to Palmetto road to Frog Lane to Montpelier Road where they turn left and travel east along Middle Road back to Nationals.

The defending champions in the five competitive categories are Bank of Bermuda amongst the local companies, Biological Station for the Exempt Companies, Police III in the Public Services category, Southampton Princess amongst the Hotels and Saltus in the schools. There are also 14 non-competitive teams.

Teams must either be all male, all female or mixed (two male, two female) and the competitors must work at that company in order to be in one of the five competitive categories. There will be numerous draw prizes for all runners and volunteers.

The event is sponsored by The Royal Gazette , Mid Ocean News and Johnson & Higgins and is organised by the Bermuda Track and Field Association.
