Held scoreless in the first half, the defending Commercial Division Group A champions found themselves in a spot soon after the break as Mariners had the audacity to take a 1-0 lead behind a Gil Rodrigues strike.

But, as is their custom, Wanderers kept grinding away. The result was an all too familiar triumph for the men in green, who scored three unanswered goals, with Vincent Chaves, Darren Hope and Arthur Riley finding the target for a 3-1 win.

Wanderers can clinch the championship next week with a win over M.R. Onions, combined with a draw or loss by second-place Island Rangers, who face Devonshire Colts All-Stars.

The teams are separated by eight points with just four games remaining -- Wanderers have 37 points compared to 29 for Rangers.

Rangers did all they could to remain the only side in the hunt, at least mathematically. Playing among the friendly confines of Malabar Field, the Dockyard outfit beat cellar dwellers Forties. Michael Bremar scored twice, while single strikes were added by Sean Symons, Troy Berkeley and Wendell Anderson.

Andrew McDowell and Luigi Caparra replied for Forties, who, with another loss and a win by Devonshire All-Stars and a draw or better by Lobster Pot, would be relegated.

Robin Hood were officially eliminated from title contention after being held to a 2-2 draw by St. George's All-Stars.

Twice the east enders went ahead, first through Milton Jones and later behind the effort of Dale Thompson.

However, on each occasion Hood fought back, snatching their first equaliser early in the second half and, after falling behind again, levelling matters 15 minutes from time, with Alex McLaughlin and Alan Mooney the marksmen.

Colts All-Stars enhanced their chances of remaining among Group A, while plunging M.R. Onions deeper into the relegation zone in notching a 4-3 win.

All-Stars sprinted to a 2-0 advantage, only to have Onions equalise at the interval.

Marvin Campbell (two), Quincy Jones and Mike Looby netted for All-Stars, while Don Smythe, Rob Newman and Wilfred Gonsalves replied for Onions.

Lobster Pot also moved to clear themselves from the danger zone, laying waste to Spinning Wheel.

Pot torched Wheel 5-2, Tony Smith leading the way with two scores and aided by one each from Bill Spencer, Niall McArthur and Mike Evans. Des Minors and Chris Furbert scored in consolation for Wheel.

In Group B, North Village kept up their promotion charge, but making the most noise were Valley, who placed themselves firmly in line for the second slot.

Once again Kevin Isaac was able to strut his stuff. The lanky striker doused Fire Service for a hat-trick -- Bervin Thomas scored the other goal -- during a 4-1 Valley win that allowed them to leapfrog the firemen into second place.

Kenneth Ford managed the lone score for Service.

Meanwhile, Rams were busy battering Somerset Extros 7-2 at Bernard Park, at one time leading 5-0.

Allan Fray (two), Mike Levon, Cornell Castle, Levroy Neasley, Wayne Pimental and George Hayward scored for Rams, while Craig (Baldy) Brangman notched Extros' goals.

Bermuda Pest Control continued their upward momentum with a narrow 5-4 win against Wolves Pack in a game unusual for the fact that each side included a goalkeeper among their scorers.

For Pest Control, Bruno Defrancesca (two), James Braithwaite, Delton White and 'keeper Russo (penalty) found the range, while, for Pack, stand-in 'keeper Mario Smith likewise converted from the spot, while Casey Burgess (two) and Sean (Spike) Berkeley also got on the score-sheet.

Remaining results saw Prison Officers win by default over Belco, while the match between Devonshire Lions and Exiles was postponed.
