OCC clinch the double
past Prison Officers 6-1 to claim the Gosling's Cup on Tuesday night.
Chris Fleming got Colony off to a solid start with a 21-19, 21-19 upset of Barry Rahman. Blair Quested and Dave Waltham continued the winning ways with defeats of Cal Butterfield and Curtis Hodgson.
The advantage moved to 4-0 following a scintillating doubles affair featuring the Quested/Waltham tandem against Officers' Rahman/Curtis. The sides split the first two games 21-19, 21-23, but Colony were able to notch the decider 21-12.
More drama was to come as singles again moved to the fore, with Quested taking on Rahman.
Quested took the first game 21-9, but this only served to bring out the best in Rahman, as he fired a barrage of vicious loops at Quested, mostly without reply. Rahman thus took the second game 21-14.
The decider was a classic war of attrition as Quested jumped ahead 5-1, before Rahman converted 11 consecutive points for a 12-5 advantage.
Quested came back equally strong to draw even at 12-12, but after being tied again at 15-15 and 17-17 Rahman finally ran out of answers and energy, and succumbed 21-18.
Hodgson secured a consolation victory for Officers in beating Fleming, but the contest was clinched as Waltham dismissed Butterfield 21-18, 21-15.
This weekend's Bermuda Open has Quested seeded number one.
