Olympic Panthers have sent out early warnings that they intend to be the team to watch this season following their thrilling 28-24 win over Coca-Cola in
Coke were leading at the half by one goal (13-12) and after three quarters they were up 21-19. Carol Bean (eight) and Wenda Godfrey (10) led the Coke shooting and at half-time Penny Moore (six) replaced Bean.
Nyland Adams led the Panthers shooting with 12 goals while Kelly Trott scored seven and Dawn Symonds nine.
In other matches, PCC had a very comfortable win over Hamilton Parish by 60-23 while AICO were equally impressive in their 55-19 triumph over North Village.
Sheena Maybury led the PCC scoring with 31 goals while Rose Richardson was close behind on 29. For Parish, Jahtheda Harvey scored 16 and Davita Gibbons seven.
The Debbie DeShields-Dawnette Smith partnership worked over North Village as DeShields scored 28 and Smith 27 to lead AICO to victory. New signing Alex Dowling led the Village scoring with 14 goals while Nikita Trott scored three and Nicole Jennings two.
Defending champions Netts had the day off and will open their campaign this weekend against Hamilton Parish.
In Second Division play last weekend, Panthers continued to dominate by defeating PCC 22-20 as Tamarae Eve (six), Ateena Raynor (nine), Flo Simmons (two) and Conicca Smith (five) scored for the winners and Clevonna Symonds (18) and Leslita Simmons (three) for the losers.
Netts Whites beat AICO 39-15 as Nikia Webb scored 26, Antoinette Williams (10) and Denise Perinchief (three) for Netts. Andora Stirling (eight), Gloria Holdipp (three) and Ardyne Smith (three) replied for AICO.
Netts Greens also had a good victory, 28-22 over Warwick Redbirds. Tyra Simmons led the Greens scoring with 26 while Gina Christopher scored two. For Redbirds, Denise Booth scored 13 while Karen Trott and Debra Saltus chipped in with four and five respectively.
Boulevard and Wolves played to a 26-26 draw but due to the face that Wolves did not have an umpire they forfeited the match.

ATHLETICS ATH The Timeless 10-K, which is a new road race organised by the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club, will take place in Somerset on November 8 starting at 9.30 a.m.
The added challenge for all runners is to complete the predicted time section shown on their entry form. The overall winner will be the individual who comes closest to that time.
Runners are being reminded that no timekeeping devices will be worn and it is suggested that all watches are to be kept at home.
Entry forms can be obtained at the Sportseller and New Winner's Edge. The deadline is set for November 6 at 5 p.m. with late entries accepted up to 9 a.m. on race day. There is an entry fee of $10 and a late entry of $15.
RUGBY RUG The Onions RFC will be holding a meeting tomorrow at 5.30 p.m. at National Sports Club to discuss the upcoming Onions v The Rest game on the semifinal day of the World Rugby Classic (November 8).
SAILING SLG Contest was the winner of the Coronation Cup in the recently completed Fitted Dinghy racing season not Challenger as noted in Wednesday's Omega Gold Cup article. Challenger last won in 1991.
GOLF GLF PGA Tour star Mark McCumber made a hole-in-one at the 176-yard 12th hole of Port Royal yesterday. McCumber is in the Island with the Merrill Lynch group and will be playing at Castle Harbour today.
