Paula makes snooker history

lift a major title when she combined with Steve Roberts to win the recent Open Doubles snooker championship.

Madeiros and Roberts, representing Queens Club, scored a convincing 3-1 victory over the Old Colony Club pair of Mike Wood and Joe Roberts in Thursday's final.

Roberts, this year's Open singles champion, and Madeiros raced into an early lead in the first frame which they went on to win 55-35 and then stretched that advantage by taking the second frame 68-50 after Wood and Roberts had both missed some easy shots.

In the third frame, Wood and Roberts led 21-2 before Steve Roberts stepped in with a superb 31 break to take his team close to a 3-0 sweep. But Wood rallied with a 14 break of his own to take the frame 52-42.

However, the inevitable was only delayed as Roberts and Madeiros hammered out a 75-37 win in the fourth frame, includig a 21 break by Roberts, who finished the game on the pink ball.

The couple will be honoured at the annual prize presentation at Old Colony Club in August.
