PHC end drought by downing Colts
PHC scored two goals in the last 20 minutes to grab only their second win of the season and deal Colts' hopes of retaining their First Division title a massive blow at Devonshire Rec last night.
It was their first taste of victory for three and half months, lifted them off the bottom of the league, and allowed them to serve notice that the relegation battle is no foregone conclusion.
That this triumph was obtained more by force of will -- and a measure of fortune -- than by any scintilating or inventive football should not bother them one jot. That is what relegation fights call for.
As for Colts, frankly they were disappointing. Although their forward line looks healthy enough -- there is skill, height and pace -- it must worry manager Vic Ball that they have scored just once in their last four outings.
Kenny Mills worked PHC's best openings in the first 45 minutes back-heeling a volley just over and shooting beyond Troy Hall but also the far post.
Colts, however, looked the likeliest scorers after the break but Sekai Waldron failed to bury a clearchance when clean through.
But suddenly PHC, all puff and huff without blowing the Colts door down, found it left ajar. Mills burst through, was bundled over but saw his penalty appeal turned down before Mallory's powerful shot in the 67th minute was tipped onto the bar.
Three minutes later, though, they were ahead. Anwar Hunt's corner was flicked on by Mills and Bleen Bean nipped in to volley past Hall.
Waldron then forced Quincy Hunt into a fine save from his header, before Jermaine Belboda hit the post. Then Mills got clear, rounded the advancing Hall and slotted into the empty net to secure PHC's surprising win two minutes from time.
