Port Royal stay hot
Port Royal warmed up for their FA Cup tie with Hotels on Sunday with their second 3-1 win in three days at BAA field last night.
It was not the way BAA had hoped things would go in their first match at home since their field re-opened last weekend. Port Royal took just four minutes to break the deadlock when Mark DeMoura's free kick on the left side took a deflection before beating goalkeeper Philip Bolton.
BAA came more into the game midway through the first half with front men Dennis Davis, Clevie Crichlow and Duncan Ashworth running hard at the Port Royal defence. Crichlow used his speed to get away from full-back Billy Tatem in the 34th minute as he streaked into the box before getting off a left-foot shot that 'keeper Russell Smith slapped away from under the crossbar.
Against the run of play Port Royal hit back to double their lead in the minutes later when a throw on the right by Tatem was not cleared inside the box and Clinarke Dill scrambled it over the line.
Port Royal's third goal came from a corner on the left 13 minutes into the second half as DeMoura's cross came in and 17-year-old Nakia Smith scored with a neat header off the inside of the far post.
BAA were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute when Dave Roberts, at 39 the oldest man on the pitch, was ejected by referee Richard Knight for persistent misconduct after receiving a caution for dissent when Port Royal were awarded a free kick just outside the area.
That sending-off spurred BAA on and they pulled a goal back in the 75th minute when Davis scored from the penalty spot after Ricky Fuhrtz was blown down for a hand-ball.
Smith should have restored his team's three-goal lead in the 80th minute when he was put clear of the BAA defence but had his shot blocked by the fast-emerging Bolton.
Then Dill put a header against the crossbar as Port Royal kept on the pressure though BAA had a late chance of their own two minutes from the end when Davis put his shot from an acute angle just past the far post following a free kick on the left.
Robin Hood beat Island Rangers 5-3 in a Commercial Division match earlier. Des Minors and Colin Alexander each scored twice for Hood and Ray Morrison the other. Troy Berkeley, and Keith and Michael Bremar netted for Rangers.
