Richardson rides out of contention
Competing at the Danon Yogurt Duathlon Formula One Series race in Orlando, Florida, Richardson was enjoying a solid bike ride ... then suddenly, he was lost.
In third place after completing the first of two five-kilometre runs, the Bermudian began to reel in the two leaders. However, the veteran athlete became so engrossed in his good form that he didn't notice he had strayed off what was supposed to be a 30-kilometre course. And when he did, it was very much too late.
So far off course did Richardson cycle that when he finally realised his mistake and returned to the transition area, the race was over and so were his chances of a top finish.
"I blew it man,'' said Richardson, taking it all in his stride. "I was out there rolling on the bike and reeling in the third place guys and then ...
wham, I'm out drifting in space.
"I ran 17:35 for the first run which was pretty solid but I just screwed up the bike.'' One Bermudian who did do well in Orlando was Alex Jones, who won the 19-and-under age group in a time of one hour, 36 minutes. Jones is a student at nearby Ekhart University.
