Same again in First Division
If it seems as though the First Division soccer matches set for tomorrow are very similar to last weekend, don't fret ... they are exactly the same. All except for the venues that is, with those teams at home last Sunday embarking on road trips this time around.
Similar scenarios exist as well, with leaders St. George's still seeking to confirm themselves for the lone automatic promotion spot, while Ireland Rangers, currently second, still desperate to close ground and avoid having to enter a play-off, in which they would be decided underdogs against whatever Premier Division side is presented.
Holding a six point cushion over Rangers and 10 points in front of third and fourth placed sides Somerset Eagles and Paget, who each have 21, St. George's are already assured of at least a play-off berth.
However, as player/coach Neil Paynter has reportedly said, their goals were set a whole lot higher when the season began, and second place, quite simply, will not cut it.
"From the word go I wanted the number one spot,'' Paynter was quoted as saying recently.
Boulevard again stand in the way of the east enders, and have the luxury of home field advantage ... that is if playing at the pot-hole filled landscape of St. John's can be considered such.
A win and anything short of maximum points by Rangers would secure the title for St. George's, who can also clinch with a draw, provided the Dockyard team lose.
St. David's gave the west enders all they could handle at Malabar, coming from behind to take a 2-1 lead, before the home side netted a late equaliser from the penalty spot.
And it would seem the challenge only intensifies for Mike Corday's men as they make the long eastward trek to compete on the large expanse of St. David's Oval, where fitness and stamina may well tell the story.
Rangers also have to be concerned with looking over their collective shoulders, with Somerset Eagles enjoying a late resurgence, trailing the second placed team by four points and favoured to get past Social Club at Bernard Park -- the same Social Club whom they blasted 8-4 at White Hill just days ago.
Police Field witnesses a clash of no great significance, with Hamilton Parish and Prospect set to do battle after drawing 2-2 at St. David's the last time they met.
For the second successive weekend, no Premier League matches are scheduled.
