Same name -- wrong player!
US Junior Amateur Golf Championships -- but it isn't the Michael Sims from Bermuda! A report in yesterday's Royal Gazette told how the Bermuda Amateur Strokeplay Champion had fired rounds of 77 and 73 to take 20th place in this week's prestigious tournament in Illinois. However, although Sims has been playing in the US recently, it was a case of mistaken identity.
Results of the tournament were sent to the Gazette's sports desk showing the scores of Michael Sims. But it turned out to be an American player whose name was spelt the same as the Bermudian.
Meanwhile, Sims' sister Lindsey has recently returned from the US Junior North/South tournament at Pinehurst in Carolina where she finished a creditable seventh in a field of 22. Seventeen year-old Lindsey shot rounds of 85, 84 and 84 over three different Pinehurst courses for a final total of 253.
