Cup Match Friendly Society spokesman Corin Smith said the group held a retreat -- the Cup Match Family Reunion -- from July 26 through 29 and conducted research into the history of Cup Match and emancipation from slavery.
The Cup Match holiday coincides with the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Bermuda and is held -- at least partly -- in commemoration of emancipation.
Other topics discussed at the retreat included international trade and finance, the insurance industry, tourism, and opportunities for local development.
Mr. Smith said: "The most compelling issue for the group is the question of Bermudian identity. What does Bermuda stand for and how do we represent our values?''
