Championships in Murcia, Spain yesterday.

First the crew of Nick Jones, Adam Barboza and Ray DeSilva were told they had been disqualified from Monday's race in which they were involved in a collision with another boat and hence lost their 30th place finish.

And in strong winds yesterday, they then finished 37th out of the fleet of 46 to leave them 20 points adrift of the top eight -- where they need to finish to qualify for this year's Olympic Games.

Winds yesterday were around 25 knots and on Sunday had been up to 35 knots in a race which was abandoned when Bermuda were leading.

"We were 13th at the first mark, but the winds were very strong and we went the wrong side and finished up 37th,'' said Jones.

But Jones hoped a change to lighter winds would bring improved fortunes over the rest of the nine-race series which finishes on Saturday.

"We can discard the disqualification, but we know we can't afford another one,'' added Jones.

"We certainly haven't given up hope and we'll keep plugging away. The wind is supposed to drop to about 15 to 20 and that will suit us better.''
