Seven PBs raise Carifta hopes
Barbados, on April 14-16 were raised on Saturday when seven squad members recorded personal best performances during a track meet against visiting Harwick College at National Stadium.
The meet, which was the final competitive session for the locals, saw the athletes produce outstanding performances despite some adverse weather conditions.
"It certainly was a great performance by our athletes. The fact that many achieved personal bests is very encouraging, proving they are just about ready to take on the best in the Caribbean,'' said Mike Swan, vice-president of the Bermuda Track and Field Association. Five females and two males out of the 11-strong team heading for the Caribbean reached personal best on Saturday.
Michelle Trott had a PB of 12.2 seconds in the 100 metres, Danielle Watson recorded a time of 25.1 in the 200m, Zindzi Swan 25.2 in the 200m, Tiffany Eatherley 2:20.5 in the 800m and Crystal Hayward 32.50m in the discus. All compete in the girl's under-17 division.
Derrick Golding had a PB of 12.21m in the boy's Under-17 division of the shot put while Richard Walcott ran his best 800 metres on local soil with a time of 1:54.8 in the boy's Under-20 age group. Bermuda's only medal winner at Carifta a year ago in Grenada, 13-year-old Brittney Marshall won the girl's under-17 shot with a throw of 10.96 metres. Her silver medal winning throw was 11.22.
