Sherratt confirmed his title of national champion when he beat the improving Kirby Smith in the Division One final.

The champion began the match with a 22-point deficit and seemingly faced a tough battle.

However, while Sherratt had a relatively easy path to the final, his opponent looked drained after a run of five matches.

Smith's earlier toils told as the match got underway with Sherratt going up 2-0. And it wasn't until 11-11 in the third game that Smith began to put up a fight.

The score then see-sawed until it reached 14-all and after a long rally Smith finally succumbed to give Sherratt the title 3-0 (15-9, 15-12, 15-14) -- his third in a row.

The Division One consolation final was a battle of youth versus experience as Gavin Dent lined up against Under-15 national champion, Andrew Robinson.

Robinson rushed into a 2-0 lead, but Dent was not about to give in without a fight and went on to win the third game convincingly.

The older player then saved several match points and took the fourth game by a single score.

By now the momentum was firmly in Dent's court and he took the final game and the match 3-2 (9-15, 12-15, 15-6, 15-14, 15-11).

The Division Two final also went the distance with Jeff Roach edging out Tom Quinn in five games.

Both players had spells of brilliance, but it was Roach who made the crucial shots count and he went on to win 3-2 (15-11, 8-15, 15-8, 4-15, 15-12).

Naz Jetha proved too strong in the Division Two consolation for Jill Curran.

But the scoreline didn't reflect the close on-court struggle which saw Jetha wrap up the match 3-1 (15-14, 15-12, 5-15, 15-8).

In the Division Three final Jim Tees and Mark Zuill surpassed the form which brought them to the end match. In an enthralling clash, Tees ran out a 3-2 victor (13-15, 15-9, 10-15, 15-9, 15-12).

Number one seed Andrew Stout continued his domination of the junior event by beating the much-improved Mark James.

James played some fine shots but appeared to lack the experience and confidence to challenge his older opponent.

Stout confirmed his number one ranking in the Under-13s with a 3-0 win (15-9, 15-9, 15-13).

Laura Robinson, the number one ranked Under-13 girl, continued her good form, seeing off Timmy Siri in the junior consolation final 3-1 (15-11, 12-15, 15-10, 15-6).
