Snowballs suffered a shock loss in Commercial League play-off action on Monday night, falling to Gateway 7-6 at Bernard Park to knot the series at a game

Gateway nibbled away at Mario Valcourt's pitching offerings with timely hits to surprise Snowballs. Gary Carr, Max Gibbs and Andy Cook each smacked home runs to startle Valcourt.

Mark Smuck and Alain Roberge, with three hits each, were the only Snowball players able to get winning pitcher Nigel Godfrey off his pitching plan.

No one would have blamed Godfrey for being a little shellshocked coming into the match since Snowballs had one of their typical hitting sprees on Friday night defeating Gateway 20-5.

Valcourt proved unbeatable on the mound again, with only Mark Kaplin and Dave Brining able to mount any kind of offensive threat, each with a pair of hits.

Losing pitcher Nigel Godfrey was roughed up by Snowballs as Braxton Stowe walloped five hits in five plate appearances, including a home run and four RBI.

Bruno Richards was also in the mood to hit the ball, socking four hits in four at bats.

Marsh & McLennan squared their series against Butterfield & Steinhoff with an 11-7 win on Monday as Gerrit DeJonge, Deborah Philip, Dave Balmouth and Lisa Bean appeared to use losing pitcher Graham Strange for batting practice. Each player clubbed two hits, all of them in three at bats.

Strange was luckier at the plate with four hits, including a round-tripper, but his one-man offensive show couldn't stop Nisala Weersooriya from gaining the pitching win. Two nights earlier he suffered the loss when B&S scored a slim 5-3 triumph.

Deloitte & Touche grabbed a 1-0 lead in their series against Cooper & Lines with a 7-6 win behind the pitching of Marty Brandt.

In a rare slugfest, Warwick defeated PTB 17-13 as Keith DeCosta and Deon Bell delivered with six hits and two home runs between them. DeCosta was the winning hurler while Shawn Tucker was tagged with the loss. Warwick lead the series 1-0.
