Social Club face probe

question struggling Premier Division side Social Club about their weekend matches.

Social Club fielded just seven players on Saturday against Somerset when they suffered a heavy defeat and then reportedly could muster just five players for Sunday's game at Sea Breeze Oval against Bailey's Bay, forcing that fixture to be forfeited.

The sad start of the season for a team that finished dead last a year ago has prompted the BCBC to look into the matter, a spokesman confirming yesterday that attempts were underway to contact club executives or team officials to discuss their plight.

With a two-week gap now before the next league matches on June 3, the Board are hoping the club will have sufficient time to reorganise their cricket programme.

A team official who didn't want to be named said yesterday that the problem Social Club faced on the weekend was "a one-off thing'' and he doubted it would occur again.

"It's probably related to the busy Mother's Day weekend,'' he said. "There is no doubt that we have sufficient players, I'm pretty sure that we have several young and old players anxious to be involved in the sport this season.''
