Sparks close in on Mott's title
League this weekend after their latest 22-5 win over Warwick Whites gave them some breathing space over second-placed Buy and Sell who went down 15-12 to last-placed Young Blood.
Sparks meet Buy and Sell in their final match of the season on Saturday night, needing just three points to clinch the title. Last year they finished second to Pembroke Juniors who are presently third in the standings.
Leading Sparks in their victory last weekend were Mike Lambe and Hank Rawlins.
Lambe had the top series 636 and second high game 245 while Rawlins rolled a 595 series in support. Sparks also had a the second high team game of 2,712.
Pembroke Juniors also lost, 17-10 to Social Club who rolled the top team series and game of 2,756 and 989. Dean Lightbourne had a 606 second high series in a losing cause as his team had a 955 third high game.
Kevin Minors rolled a third high 232 game for Buy and Sell in their loss to Young Blood while Chris Leverock helped Mini Forwarders to a 161 -101 win over Warwick Reds after he bowled a 597 third high series and 224 game.
Ty Williams chipped in with the top game of 254 as Mini Forwarders claimed second high game honours with their 974 and were also third in the series with a 2,710.

With only one week left in the season, Tools & Equipment swept to their second consecutive league title.
They crushed a double short-handed Team Spirit 27-3 and in the process posted the evening's top team game and series of 1,036 and 3,007 respectively. Conrad Lister posted the big score, rolling the top series of 667 and second high game of 254. He was ably assisted by Dean Lightbourn, who notched a 627 series, and Chris Leverock, who had an equally impressive 613 series.
The short-handed Marlboros defeated New Mix Ups 20-10 as they locked up second place. Their second high game of 1,000 did most of the damage with Doug Hines rolling the top game of 268 and top series of 607. For the losers, it was Eddie Daniels with the top score.
Stevedoring Services inched closer towards locking up third place with an 18-12 victory over Spoilers. Woody Jones produced their top score while David Pitt rolled high game for the Spoilers.
Gosling's maintained an outside shot at third place with their 171 -121 triumph over Tomp's Towing. Both teams still have a mathematical shot at catching Stevedoring for third spot. Oscar Andrade posted the third high game of 228 while Hilton Hayward had top series, helping Gosling's post the third high team game of 950 and second high series of 2,693. Carson Bean had top score for Tomp's.
Signature Card rolled to an easy 25-5 win over Franklin Travel. Clyde Burgess produced top score for the winners while Howard Francis was top man for the losers.
