Swifts stun league leaders
unbeaten B Division leaders Swallows as Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association action resumed over the weekend.
Entering the match with eight wins and a draw, and a five point lead at the top of the table, Swallows, as expected, dominated much of the play against their lowly rivals. But Swifts defence, led by Megan Leitch and Charmini Thamotheram, held firm as they constantly frustrated their opponents.
A Swallows goal in the second half was disallowed and at the other end Swifts' Kim Frith narrowly missed from a cross by Chrisanthi Bartley.
And just when it seemed the match would end goalless, Frith broke through in the dying seconds to hit a memorable winner.
Meanwhile, Ali Cameron scored early to give Canaries a 1-0 win over Cardinals, thus closing the gap on Swallows to three points.
In the weekend's only A Division game, Canaries defeated Cardinals 2-0, Rhonda Rawlins scoring in the first half and Helen Farrington converting a free hit from Lisa Haynes after the break.
