Iris, who won three gold medals in the 15-17 category in the World Karate Organistaion Championships in Venice earlier this month, beat American Al Szafranski into second place.

Szafranski reversed the result in the weapons grand championship, in which Iris was second.

American Landon Fredeerick was the boys black belt forms grand champion, beating Shaun Dill by a tenth of a point.

The adult men's division saw another American triumph, as John Su was grand champion in forms, weapon forms and fighting. The runners-up were Anthony Tucker (forms), Mark Shuey (weapons) and Vernon Alexander (fighting).

The championships attracted a record entry of 108 competitors, some from overseas.
