The second night of Sunkist Small Fry action ended up being a night of several firsts.
In opening action, the Sunkist Peaches earned their first win of the season in the league's first-ever overtime game. They gunned down the Sunkist Reds 24-20 as `Big Ben' Barclay and Andre Richardson led the way, with six points each, while Anthony King and Jumel Woolridge each added six points for the Reds.
The second game of the night saw the Sunkist Yellows continue their domination by whipping past the Sunkist Whites 34-6. John Barry Nusum sacrificed his scoring by orchestrating a 34-point run.
Leading scorers for the Sunkist Yellows were Kristen DiGiacomo and Colin Brown with 10 points apiece. The Sunkist Whites, who just could not get off the mark, were led by Jason DeGiacomo's four points.
The final game of the evening marked another first for the league. Yvonne DeCoute spotted up and dropped a three-point bomb for the Sunkist Greens, who beat the Blues 35-24. This three pointer, aside from being a history-maker, stopped a fourth quarter rally by the Blues.
The Greens were led in scoring by the trio of Murray Gregorson, with 10 points, Jason Binns (10) and Nick Dunston (eight). The Blues, who battled hard until the end, were led by Eugene (Baby-Shaq) Watson with 12 points.
Saturday's schedule at Whitney Institute: Sunkist Greens v Sunkist Reds (6.30 p.m.), Sunkist Whites v Sunkist Blues (7.15 p.m.), Sunkist Yellows v Sunkist Peaches (8 p.m.).
In the Bermuda Basketball Association action on Saturday, Young Guns edged Bank of Bermuda 57-55 with Ijumo Hayward scoring 14 points for the winners and Al Patterson 17 in a losing cause.
On Sunday, Trout Twister hammered Kempe & Whittle 80-49 with Kevin Barrett scoring 24, while Troy Pitcher hit 15 for the losers.
Bank of Bermuda won their Sunday match 56-40 over Titans with Simon Onebowale scoring 20 points to lead the way and MacGuinness Looby 22 for Titans.
SOFTBALL SOF Chips made short work of Cooper & Lines in Commercial League action on Saturday, leading their opponents 19-3 before the contest was stopped in the fifth inning on the `mercy rule'.
Albert DeYoung was the top batter for Chips, going three-for-four, while Dave Wall supported with a perfect two-for-two and pitcher Joe Logan two-for-three.
Mike Evans was two-for-two for the losers as Martha Fleming was tagged with the loss.
A total of 41 runs came in the Butterfield & Steinhoff-AIM contest, with the latter coming out 25-16. Al James, Tim Proctor and Fraser Gray all hit one home run for AIM, as James and Tim Proctor both went four-for-four, Dionne Cann three-for-four and Gray three-for-five. Between the four leading batters there were 21 RBI, six for James, and five each from Proctor, Cann and Gray.
Trevor Brookes and Dave Milligan tried to keep B&S in the contest, with each supplying four-for-four performances at the plate. Brookes had four runs batted in and Milligan two RBI.
Ken McDonald was the winning pitcher while Dan Koshowski was the loser.
Elbow Beach beat Anfossi & Butterfield 14-10 as Ritchie Foggo and Al McKinnon both went two-for-four -- each with one homer and three RBI -- while Philip Marsh (three-for-four) and Marty Brandt (two-for-four) were the top batters for the losers.
In action from Friday, Sandys Sports Club beat Arthur Andersen 27-11, PTB got by Centre Re 14-10 and Kempe and Whittle defeated Skandia 17-13.
